Early results for Seattle-area red light program
BREMERTON, Wash. -- Nearly 1,000 red light violations were authorized by Bremerton Police during the first week and a half of the city's automated enforcement program.
Officials responded to the early results by speaking out about drivers' need to slow down and obey simple traffic laws. A city bus, a school bus, and an Olympia College van were among the reported early violators.

Chandler officials announce progress
CHANDLER, Ariz. -- Redflex cameras at 12 Chandler intersections are capturing nearly 2,000 red light runners and speeders every month, according to an April 17 report by The Arizona Republic.
Chandler is collecting nearly $100,000 each month through the photo enforcement program.
Police reported in 2007 that accidents had been decreased at initial camera intersections.
Redflex cameras are believed to have a significant impact on driver behavior in the busy Phoenix suburb, coupled with new police speed-enforcement digital reader boards.
Mobile photo speed-enforcement ‘tripod' unveiled in Arizona
PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. -- The latest and most versatile Redflex Traffic Systems photo enforcement technology, the REDFLEXspeed® mobile tripod system, will be unveiled Tuesday in Prescott Valley as part of a progressive public safety partnership to curb dangerous driving.
The REDFLEXspeed® mobile tripod- a small, wireless digital camera system deployed similarly to the mobile photo speed-enforcement vans used by Prescott Valley Police - is expected to give officers greater flexibility in effectively enforcing speed limits along state routes 69 and 89A.
Prescott Valley's deployment of the Redflex "tripod" marks the first-ever use of such automated speed-enforcement technology in Arizona. Redflex engineers originally developed the compact system for police in Australia.
The REDFLEXspeed® mobile tripod includes two high-megapixel digital cameras, two portable flash units, speed-detection radar and a central computer which stores and securely transmits suspected speed violations for police review. The cameras capture images of the front (driver's face) and rear (license plate) of vehicles that trigger the device passing through the radar over the enforcement threshold at 11 mph or over the posted speed limit.
The less than 30-pound mobile unit is designed for use on tighter roadways, such as sections of the state routes in Prescott Valley, where traditional police deployment or mobile speed van deployment is challenging because of limited access, physical barriers or rough terrain. The mobile tripod is easily portable. It can also be wired to a mobile photo-speed enforcement van or strategically deployed to support other speed-enforcement units.
High speed drivers on state routes 69 and 89A have long been a focus of Prescott Valley Police speed enforcement. The town expanded its photo enforcement program last fall by installing fixed speed enforcement cameras on the state routes to complement mobile speed vans.
Redflex, Chicago largest U.S. red light camera program
CHICAGO -- Redflex Traffic Systems is now contracted to add 440 new camera approaches in Chicago through a groundbreaking contract announced this month.
The new cameras, expected to be installed by 2012, will bring Chicago's total photo-enforced approaches to 580 - 140 of which are currently live as part of the largest photo enforcement program in the U.S. Redflex was selected from a group of vendors that included American Traffic Solutions and Nestor Traffic Systems.
After extensive review, the committee found Redflex is the only vendor able to meet all the stipulations outlined by the city based on technical implementation, operations, and other factors. Chicago officials also enlisted a third-party firm (Parsons Engineering), which confirmed Redflex is the only company able to support the city's photo enforcement program expansion goals.
Chicago media reports about Redflex' contract expansion in the city included:
"Redflex Traffic Systems Inc. was the low bidder for a new pact that means errant motorists in the city will (be cited) at about 60 additional locations this year and 40 more in each of the next four years." - The Chicago Tribune, March 4
"Now the company that ushered in the brave new world of traffic enforcement in Chicago will do the same at 220 additional intersections by 2012, dramatically increasing annual red light revenues expected to rise to $50 million this year." - The Chicago Sun-Times, March 4
"The city's Office of Emergency Management and Communications says the number of red-light violations at camera-equipped spots has been cut by more than half." - ABC-7 Chicago, March 4
